Not one more thing today.
Not a single thing. The day is already overweight with issues. Raise your hand if you can relate. The Bible has a word for days like these.
“Overwhelmed.” Back to bed. Covers over the head.
Webster’s defines “overwhelm” as follows: “To immerse and bear down; in a figurative sense; as, to be overwhelmed with cares, afflictions or business.”
Whether we are overwhelmed because we have caused it or it was just our turn in the rotation of adversity, life comes pre-loaded with unexpected events and all sorts of challenges. We can’t place an order on Amazon for a trouble-free life, but we can try to avoid creating new problems by slowing down long enough to consider our choices and decisions. Since life already has its own troubles, why would we add any?
Overwhelmed happens. And when it does, we can call out to God and ask Him to “lead us to the rock that is higher than I” (Psa. 61:2). He knows what we’re going through, how long it will last, and how to sustain us.
Are you overworked, under-rested, overbooked, and overwhelmed? Whenever possible, don’t add anything else to your life until things quiet down.
“From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (Psalm 61:2)
